OLP Programs

Our Online Leadership Program (OLP) was created in 2000 to bring new media into our after school programs, introduce these programs into online communities, and explore how the combination of the two could develop 21st Century Learning Skills. Through programs utilizing video games, virtual worlds, online dialogues and social networks, youth involved in our programs now have the opportunity to have their voices heard and make a global impact in ways that were previously unimaginable. Below are the main categories of programs OLP offers.

The Edge Project

The Edge Project is interested in civic and cultural institutions bringing cutting edge digital media into their youth educational programs, and where this programming is a disruptive force challenging the educators and/or the institutional cultural to work on the edge of their comfort level.

Gaming

Through our gaming programs, Global Kids youth leaders worked to create web-based games like Ayiti: The Cost of Life and Hurricane Katrina: Tempest in Crescent City.

Social Media

The development of this media has increased the opportunities for Global Kids to develop programs which utilize these media production tools to support youth to broadcast their voices on critical issues.
